Early Education and Childcare in Saona Island

As part of our mission to expand the Hogar del Niño educational model nationwide, we have taken a significant step with the inauguration of Hogar del Niño-Saona on June 26, 2024. This initiative represents a firm commitment to education and child welfare in communities with limited access to essential services.

A Safe Space for Learning and Child Development

Hogar del Niño-Saona offers a safe and stimulating environment for the island's children, providing quality care and education to:

• 18 babies from 2 months to 2 years old, who receive care from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the support of a dedicated team of professionals, including trained teachers and assistants.
• 19 children from 3 to 6 years old, who are cared for by three teachers employed by the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc., ensuring structured learning adapted to their needs.

Community Impact

Saona Island, with over 500 residents distributed across its 110 km², faces significant challenges in terms of access to education. With the opening of this center, we aim to alleviate one of the main difficulties affecting island families: the need to send their children to live with relatives or friends outside the community to receive education.

Each year, more than 60 children must temporarily leave the island to access formal education. With this new center, we hope to reduce this number and provide an accessible and quality educational alternative within the same community.

Additionally, more than 200 families will be directly benefited by this project, ensuring that their children receive care and education in an appropriate environment without the need to separate from their family unit.

With the support of our community, donors, and strategic allies, we will continue working to strengthen and expand this educational model, ensuring that more children in vulnerable communities have access to quality education from early childhood.
